       Velkommen to Petersburg

Petersburg, Alaska is a small community on the north end of Mitkof Island, where Frederick Sound and the Wrangell Narrows meet. Sometimes referred to as "Little Norway," the community has, as you might expect, a strong Norwegian heritage.

Located directly along Frederick Sound, Petersburg offers a variety of unique experiences you're sure to enjoy. Watch humpback whales as they move through the area. Or, take a short boat ride to the LeConte Glacier. And don't forget our Little Norway Festival, when, for four days in May, we celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day.

Join us in Petersburg for these and many other activities. Feel free to contact us for more information.
Transportation Facts

Petersburg is accessible by jet and by ferry. The costs are comparable, so which one you choose depends on how much time you have to enjoy the area.

Alaska Airlines flies in from Seattle twice a day, morning and afternoon. Flights can take as little as four hours.

The Alaska Marine Highway System travels at a more leisurely pace. Depart from Bellingham and you'll arrive in Petersburg a couple of days later.

The airport and ferry terminals are a short distance from The Nordic House, and we're happy to do transfers to and from both terminals.

Our Boat

Whether you're an experienced boater on vacation or a local Alaskan on a getaway, we can help you enjoy all that our local waters have to offer.

Our boat has an enclosed cabin and can seat up to six people. It is outfitted with a Garmin GPS/Depth Sounder, VHF Radio, anchor, and all USCG required safety equipment. It is powered by a 250 horsepower Yamaha outboard motor and a 9.9 horsepower Yamaha is mounted for trolling.

I was so fortunate to find the Nordic House for an extended work trip to Petersburg. Room 4 (an entire private apartment) was spacious, clean, bright, and had everything I needed. Being able to cook in my own full kitchen was absolutely fantastic. This place was truly my home away from home. I felt completely safe, and enjoyed the short walk to town. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and kept me going all day! I'm looking forward to staying again! Thank you so much :)

We rented the fishing boat from Nordic house. They were the best hosts and went out of their way to help our group have everything we needed for a successful fishing trip. We have already booked for next year and will be staying in their B&B as well as renting the boat! Thanks for a great time!!

Spent two nights here, taking the ferry northward. Our hosts met us at the ferry and drove us the short distance to the Nordic House. Sweet place! Incredible vistas to the west and a great moving scene of boat traffic in front of you. We were warmly greeted and a lovely breakfast awaited us in the morning. It was a lovely stay, thank you for everything
